Author Gary Jobson presents “Sailing: Speed and Passion.” Jobson is a world class sailor, television commentator and author. He is President of US SAILING, the National Governing Body of Sailing. He has authored 17 sailing books and is Editor at Large of Sailing World and Cruising World magazines, and has been ESPN’s sailing commentator since 1985. In 1999, Jobson won the Nathanael G. Over 150 years ago, Americans struggled with issues of slavery, race, freedom, equality, states’ rights, and America’s future. In the 1858 Illinois Senate race, Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas embarked on a series of debates. Their epic clash of ideas and oratory forged a future President and a nation. LA Theatre Works production of The Rivalry is a riveting depiction of the Lincoln-Douglas debates, using dialogue from the original debate transcripts to bring to life the fierce competition between the future President and the incumbent Senator as they tackled the day’s most controversial issues.

Writer John Rousmaniere presents “The Golden Pastime,” an illustrated history of American yachting. Rousmaniere (Room-an-ear) has sailed more than 40,000 miles in the ocean and near shore. A descendant of a French soldier who fought in the American Revolution, he is the author of 28 books, including 15 about sailing. His books on yachting history include The Golden Pastime: A New History of Yachting, a book on yachting photography, and biographies of the New York Yacht Club, the America’s Cup, The Shelter Island Yacht Club, and the classic yawl Bolero. He is the yachting editor of the Oxford Encyclopedia of Maritime History

The annual event is a night filled with music from the 60’s, focusing around George Harrison and the Beatles. The event includes Beatles memorabilia and artwork available for purchase and a Chinese raffle.

Venture out into various locations in the quiet, dark winter woods of Dartmouth during the predawn hours when local owls of the region are highly active. Screech, Great Horned, Barred and Long Eared Owls are potential species heard and seen. Around sunrise, you’ll depart the forest and visit Barney’s Joy Beach, where other seabirds and the beautiful winter beach itself can be enjoyed. At the outing’s conclusion, you’ll be treated to a light breakfast of bagels and coffee at the Lloyd Center. From there you may depart for the day or explore the trail in all its winter glory
