Lights On! Taunton

Children’s Holiday Parade,
Tree-lighting at Government Center Fall River
The city will host a parade that starts in Kennedy Park and will include about 100 groups, including 16 bands, 23 floats and four large Macy’s Parade-style balloons. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by helicopter around 12:15 p.m. after flying into the city over Government Center and up South Main Street. The Children’s Holiday Parade will step off at 12:30 p.m. from Kennedy Park and head up South Main Street to Central Street and end on Milliken Boulevard. It will last about two hours. The parade will offer a lively display of roughly 100 groups, including about 16 bands, 23 floats, four huge Macy’s Parade-style balloons and more.

New Bedford Preservation Society
To herald the holiday season, residents of New Bedford’s historic neighborhoods will once
again be opening their beautifully restored homes for the New Bedford Preservation Society’s
signature fundraising event – the 20th Annual Holiday House Tour. The elegant parlors of the
magnificent Rotch-Jones-Duff House will be featured along with several historic residences
that have never before been open for the tour, all beautifully decorated for the holidays. An
unlimited array of design ideas abound in the varied architecture and interiors which are as
diverse as the owners

Annual Historical Society Holiday Open House
The holiday season is fast approaching and the is following its annual custom of decorating its elegant granite mansion The public is invited to visit free of charge as a holiday gift from the Society to the community. The reception will be held on Wednesday, Dec 14, 2011, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Members will be able to enjoy the lavishly decorated rooms, pastry and traditional eggnog, and browse through the museum shop. By mid-October every year, some of the usual décor of the house is taken down and stored for the season. Then, all the rooms are decorated for the holiday in typical Victorian style

“A New England Nutcracker”
Set to Tchaikovsky Nutcracker score, the New Bedford Youth Ballet creates a fun twist as it incorporates the history of New Bedford with Herman Melville as a guest of the performance. Captain Ephraim Williams arrives home from a whaling trip and brings home dancing animals from his travels around the world. Ephraim daughter Mary is the young girl that receives the nutcracker as a gift. As she drifts off to sleep the audience will accompany Mary on her magical dream.
