Fairhaven Village Militia Fort Phoenix Days Encampment

Location: Fort Phoenix, Fort Street, Fairhaven MA
Description: 10:00 a.m. Saturday to 3:00 p.m. Sunday. Cannon firing approx. 7:30 p.m. Saturday The Fairhaven Village Militia, the Fairhaven Office of Tourism and guest present a 2 day historical encampment at Fort Phoenix. Talk to period costumed men and women about the fort’s history and life in the 1770’s See flintlock musket firing demonstrations. Try tomahawk throwing or children’s games. Saturday evening at sundown (approx. 7:30) see a demonstration “night firing” of the fort’s five cannons.

5th Annual Working Waterfront Festival

Location: New Bedford Waterfront, Fishermen’s Pier, Merrill’s Wharf

Description: A festival celebrating the commercial fishing industry and educating the public about the lives, skills and traditions of fishermen processors and all of the others who are part of the working waterfront.  The Festival will feature tours of fishing boats, demonstrations and contest of occupational skills, food, music and more.  This is a unique opportunity for the fishing community to represent itself and teach the public about all that goes into bringing seafood from the ocean to the table.
