Borderland State Park

One of the most historically significant tracts of public land in the Commonwealth.
Created in the early 1900s by artist and suffragist Blanche Ames and her botanist
husband Oakes, Borderland offers many of the same pleasures that the Ames family
enjoyed: walking and horseback riding on woodland trails, fishing and canoeing in the
ponds, or in winter ice-skating and sledding.

Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust (DNRT) is a non-profit, membership-supported organization, formed in 1971 by community members concerned about the future of Dartmouth.  Over the years, DNRT has helped permanently protect nearly 5,000 acres of wetlands, wildlife habitat, farmland, forests, and scenic landscapes in Dartmouth, making us one of the most successful land trusts in the state.

DNRT currently owns 1,530 acres in 52 Reserves, and stewards 37 conservation restrictions on another 1,000 acres. We also maintain 40 miles of walking trails

home of the World War II battleship, U.S.S. Massachusetts. The Visitors Center
features a multi-screen slide show, “The Fabric of Fall River,” which tells the history
of the city that once produced more cotton textiles than any other in the Western Hemisphere.

This heavily wooded park, minutes from Interstate Route 495, offers abundant beauty and many
opportunities for recreation. Four lakes provide excellent fishing. Swimming for camping patrons
only is available at the beach on Middle Pond. Picnicking, biking, canoeing, walking, hiking, horseback riding,
cross-country skiing and ice fishing are popular activities. In the fall the contrast of scarlet cranberry bogs
against the pines is breathtaking.

The North Attleboro National Fish Hatchery supports Atlantic salmon restoration programs
in southern New England. The Connecticut and Merrimack rivers salmon programs transfer
sea-run adults after spawning (kelts) to the North Attleboro NFH for reconditioning every fall.

Turner Pond, New Bedford, MA
55 acre impoundment of the Pasakamansett River .  This warm water pond is
characterized by dark brown water, poor transparency (about 1.5 feet) and
a mud bottom. Emergent aquatic vegetation covers nearly half the surface in summer.
